Indian Scout 600cc from 1925 with P. Bigsby OHV conversion.
Paul Bigsby was a racer, engineer and was commissioned by Indian to
build 12 OHVs for hill climbing. Based on an Indian scout but in a
special frame with a small tank. After the delivery of these
motorcycles, Bigsby thought he could sell these conversion kits as an
option. There was only 1 problem and that was that the OHV engine no
longer fit in the frame. For this he made special insert pieces that
had to be placed in the frame tube above the engine. There were few
interested people to disassemble their newly bought motorcycle and cut
the frame tube. As a result, only 5 sets of this OHV have been sold.
This motorcycle has been completely overhauled. The original Indian
flywheels are too weak for the power of this engine and have therefore
been replaced by a Harley crankshaft S6324454 with Indian pins. As a
result, the motor is now 3x bearing on one side and 5x bearing on the
other side. A special Carrillo connecting rod has now also been made
and specially designed pistons. The engine is equipped with 2 Amal TT
race carburettors.
Rarely are such a model offered. A unique opportunity to have a fast
special racer.
