描述
Sehr schöne Linotype Setzmaschine im originalen Zustand. A very fine Linotype typesetting machine in original condition.
Setzmaschine / Typesetting machine Linotype 4a III
Serial-No. 11746
The Linotype typesetting machine revolutionized printing by enabling the casting of entire lines of text. The typesetter entered the desired text using a keyboard.
For each character, a mold—known as a matrix—automatically dropped from a magazine into a holder. Once a line was complete, it was cast directly using molten lead.
The final printing forms were then assembled by hand from these finished lines of lead type.
